Bad driving habits to unlearn

Many drivers would agree that other drivers have annoying bad habits when behind the wheel. On any journey, whether it’s round the suburbs, a long trip interstate, or a late-night dash to the petrol station, there’s always somebody doing something stupid or dangerous on the road.

Those of us who are perfect drivers just can’t help noticing the bad habits of others.

When you try to overtake, they speed up

You wonder what is going on in somebody’s mind that they cannot bear to be overtaken.

Getting stuck at red lights

Many intersections in Sydney offer motorists about 2 seconds to pull out on a green light, so nobody likes the car that makes you wait for three sets of red lights.

No indicators

Some drivers don’t use their indicators much at all, but 4 out of 5 drivers don’t know how to indicate when using roundabouts especially when going straight ahead.

Hogging the right lane

On a motorway, there is always a car sitting in the right lane that is not actually overtaking anybody. The impatient cars then overtake on the left, making everybody unsafe.

Tailgating

Nobody likes the car behind on their tail and yet it happens – all the time – and they don’t arrive any faster.

Bad turns

There are drivers who turn left from the right lane and drivers who don’t creep out when turning right so they sit at the intersection for ages.

Parking poorly

While parking is not actually driving, poor parking can set even the calmest driver off. When street parking is at a premium, it’s very hard to accept the car parked across two spaces.

Finally, while it may not bother other motorists much, eating while driving is a bad habit. According to a US study, eating a cheeseburger can be more distracting than talking on a mobile.

So beware cheeseburgers and brush up on some of those driving habits that other people have. It could even be the difference between too many demerit points or a cheaper green slip.
