Motor Accidents Authority

Previous manager of the NSW CTP and LTCS schemes

The Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) was the previous manager of the CTP Greenslip and Lifetime Care and Support (LTCS) schemes for the NSW state government.

Under the Motor Accidents Compensation Act 1999, the MAA had six main functions:

1. Compliance – Ensure insurers and other stakeholders complied with requirements of the Act and any Guidelines.

2. Effectiveness – Ensure the market was competitive and fair, license the insurers, manage insurer conduct, monitor and if necessary reject premiums, monitor profitability and insurer solvency.

3. Health improvement – Improve injury management and health outcomes and improve services for injured people and their families.

4. Claims – Improve efficiency and effectiveness of claims assessment, reduce claims assessment disputes and resolve disputes quickly.

5. Information – Monitor and report on operation of the scheme. Provide information to greenslip purchasers through price comparison and a claims advisory service.

6. Prevention – Support injury prevention by funding research, through sponsorships and participation with the community.

State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) took over from the Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) on 1 September 2015. SIRA is a statutory body created by State Insurance and Care Governance Act 2015.

The SIRA site provides CTP green slip information, including prices, and claims advice from CTPAssist.
