greenslips for utes

Do you need a green slip for your ute? In June 2022, there were 4 utes in Australia’s new vehicle sales top 10. First and third were the ever popular Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger. In fact, light commercials now have 24% of the market, compared to passenger cars with only 19%. Find out the cost of green slips for utes.

How are greenslip prices set for utes?

Insurers decide on green slip prices for utes. They use the same factors as for SUVs or passenger cars. These include location, any demerit points, youngest driver age and experience, claims history and distance travelled. The cost of a ute greenslip also depends on whether you are a “good” or “bad” driver (your record as a safe and lawful driver).

How much do green slips for utes cost?

Metro prices for all vehicle types are much higher than country prices because that’s where most serious injuries occur.

A good, fully insured male driver, 45, in each geographical area, who drives for work and claims GST, could pay:

Area Price range Difference   Save
Metro utes $681-$848  $167   20%
Outer Metro utes $449-$556   $107   19%
Newcastle and Central Coast utes $383-$475  $92     19%
Wollongong utes $510-$638 $128      20%
Country utes $327-$410   $83   20%

By using the greenslips.com.au calculator, you can save around 20% on your greenslip. You could pay up to 25% more for a greenslip if you don’t compare prices first.

Why do ute greenslips cost more than for cars?

Generally, green slip prices are higher for utes than for passenger cars because of the higher risks of having an accident and making claims. One reason is ute owners often travel further and more often for work than the average vehicle owner. These extra risks of driving a ute are reflected in regulated green slip prices.

Are all greenslips for utes the same?

All greenslips for utes (and other types of vehicles) must offer the same cover by law. Only one insurer offers At-Fault Driver Cover, an extra feature on top of ute, SUV or passenger car green slips in NSW.

To find the cheapest green slip for a ute in NSW, go to the greenslips.com.au Calculator. Make sure you select Vehicle Type as Light Goods Vehicle/Ute to find your make and model for the year of manufacture.
