Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) was abolished from 20 November 2019. Its functions will be transferred to Transport for NSW.
As one single transport agency, Transport for NSW will be responsible for roads and transport. Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance says this will facilitate an “integrated and strategic approach to transport for everybody in the State, leading to better roads and services”.
These changes were first announced in April 2019 when Premier Gladys Berejiklian was elected. Since then the government has been working hard to bring the functions of RMS and Transport for NSW together.
For some people it will not seem long since Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) was abolished to make way for RMS in July 2011.
